Bali: Ubud Eats

When planning for Bali, I had no intention of going out of my way in search of good food. I even brought protein powder so I could fill up on the go. So it was a surprise to find such a plethora of healthy, delicious. and cheap food!

We went to several plant based, raw, and gluten free cafes. I had a green juice almost everyday, and totally overdosed on probiotic foods. They really know how to fermented food.. The kombucha and coconut yogurt was deliciously tart, and would never pass American standards of sweetness (my kind of place!)

Bali is certainly a foodies heaven, and my inner foodie couldn’t help but indulge.

Elixir

Elixir was one of our favorite places to go—we ended up skipping our complimentary breakfast and went 3 times!

The best thing we tried by far was the GF Jackfruit Burger. I don’t think I’d ever had Jackfruit before, but I’m completely sold. The Chickpea Pancakes were also unbelievable.

The densest Golden Latte and Matcha Latte known to human kind… Delicious, but I’m the kind of person who would prefer to drink a huge watered down beverage over a concentrated one. So that’s exactly what I did…

Cassava green banana waffles

For dessert we had cassava and green banana waffles topped with chocolate ganache and some heaven flavored coconut ice scream. Take me back!

Magical Rice Fields and Sweet Orange Warung

We saw a sign for Magical Rice Fields, and like moths drawn to light, there wasn’t even a question as to whether or not we would go. After a beautiful walk through the fields we came to Sweet Orange Warung. It is a little restaurant decorated with coconut heads in the middle of the magical rice fields. We consumed juices, chicken curry, and beautiful views.

Tukies Coconut Shop

At Tukies we had a Paleo Fudge bar, Traditional Balinese Rice cake, and Jackfruit Rice cake. The Traditional Balinese Rice cake was recommended and by far my favorite. The also sell coconut butter there!

Alchemy

Pictured: Philadelphia roll, Vegan Mexican Burger with mango cheese, and the Aloha Pizza

For our last meal in Bali we went to Alchemy, which has great paleo, vegan, and even raw options. Alchemy had the densest green juice BY FAR. The vegan Philadelphia roll was absolutely delicious—I don’t know if I’ve ever had a the ‘real’ Philadelphia roll! Before Bali, I hadn’t had pizza in over a year (and it was paleo pizza). This may have been our fourth or fifth pizza in Bali! Alchemy has a little store as well in which we spent the last of our Rupiahs.

Final Notes

Highlights

  1. Elixir’s GF Jackfruit Burger

  2. Elixir’s Chickpea pancakes

  3. Tukies’ Traditional Balinese Rice Cake

  4. Sweet Orange Warung’s chicken curry

  5. Alchemy’s Philadelphia roll

Honestly, don’t even go by a guide. There were SO MANY good options. It is more allergy/diet friendly than any place I’ve ever been to. There is no need to go out of your way for a specific cafe. Walk a block and you are bound to find some delicious treats.

I hope the food porn made you salivate :)
